Fort Wayne Police Department officials say an arrest has been made in a shooting that has now turned fatal.
The victim has been identified as Gery Allen Rucker, 19. He died at a local hospital after being shot on Tuesday afternoon at the Villages of Hanna apartments.
Officers initially said they had a person of interest in the case and later on Wednesday released the following:
The suspect in yesterday’s shooting investigation at 2100 Eden St. was arrested early this morning without incident. The Fort Wayne Police Department would like to thank everyone who called in with information to aid in this investigation. The victim’s name will be released at a later time by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
Arrested: Derrick D. Dennis II, 25 year old male
Charges: Murder (level 1 Felony)
Around the same time, the Allen County Coroner identified the victim and the cause and manner of death:
The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the male victim that arrived at a local hospital suffering from gunshot wounds on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at approximately 14:44 hours. The decedent has been positively identified as Gery Allen Rucker, a male, black, 19 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Multiple Gunshot Wounds and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Gery Allen Rucker is the 28th Homicide in Fort Wayne, and Allen County for 2021. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Department officials say that they have a person of interest in a shooting that left one person with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded to the Villages of Hanna apartments after reports of shots fired. Initially, police did not find anyone who had been shot.
A short time later, a victim arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. They were soon downgraded to be in critical condition.
Police say an initial investigation led to a person of interest. However, they are still asking for tips.
FWPD officials released the following:
The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at 2100 Eden St. just after 2:30 PM on Tuesday Sept. 14th, 2021. Officers were called to the 2100 block of Eden St. on reports of shots fired. Multiple callers called Police advising that numerous shots were fired in the area. Once at the scene Police observed an apartment window that had been shot out, as well as a vehicle that had damage. There was a fresh blood trail that lead away from the apartment complex. The scene was immediately secured and witnesses identified. No shooting victim was located at the scene.
A short time later, while the scene was being processed, a gunshot victim was brought to a local hospital by private conveyance with non-life threatening injuries. Once at the hospital the adult victim was quickly downgraded to life threatening injuries. Witnesses are currently being interviewed and video surveillance is being reviewed. There is a person of interest associated with this shooting based on preliminary investigative information. The crime scene is being processed thoroughly to obtain as much evidence as possible.
