STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says that a man is facing charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at a residence in Orland.
According to a release, Brandon Hicks is the live-in boyfriend of the victim. She was at a hospital in Angola to get treatment when police were called in.
The attack is reported to have happened Sunday afternoon when Hicks was allegedly intoxicated. The victim said he strangled her and raped her and that he struck her dog when they tried to protect her.
Hicks was arrested around 7 p.m. and booked on several charges.

On 07/23/2023 just before 12:30 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to Cameron Hospital in Angola for a report of a sexual assault that had recently occurred. After gathering some preliminary information from the female victim, Sheriff’s detectives were called in to assist in the investigation. Initial investigation determined that the incident occurred at a residence in the 5900 block of North SR 327 in the town of Orland. The sexual assault allegedly occurred during the early morning hours of 07/23/2023.
Following a sexual assault exam and treatment of minor injuries, the female victim was able to provide details to Sheriff’s detectives about the attack. The suspect was identified as the victim’s live-in boyfriend 46-year-old Brandon Kevin Hicks of Orland, IN. The victim indicated that Hicks was intoxicated and allegedly battered, strangled, and sexually assaulted her. During the attack, the victim’s dog attempted to protect the victim and was allegedly struck by Hicks with a closed fist.
Following the victim’s interview with detectives, Hicks was subsequently located at the Orland residence and taken into custody without incident just after 7:00 pm. A search warrant was also obtained and executed on the residence shortly after Hicks was located. Following an interview with Sheriff’s detectives, Hicks was booked into the Steuben County Jail on the following preliminary charges
Rape, a level 3 felony
Strangulation, a level 6 felony
Domestic Battery, a class A misdemeanor
Animal Cruelty, a class A misdemeanor
Hicks remains held without bond pending an initial court appearance. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Orland Town Marshal’s Office.
