FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Dozens of people were displaced by a fire early Saturday at the Baldwin Creek Apartments.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) says that firefighters responded to the blaze in the 2000 block of Hobson Road around 12:05 a.m. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the first floor, which had spread to the second floor.
All residents, estimated to be between 20 and 40 people, evacuated the building on their own before crews arrived. No injuries were reported, according to a statement from the FWFD.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control just before 2 a.m.
While the apartment building suffered extensive fire, water, and smoke damage, firefighters were able to save half of the structure from the flames. The fire affected both the first and second floors, as well as the attic.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD), TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO, and NCE all assisted on scene, along with 45 firefighters and 10 fire trucks.

The FWFD responded to a fire at the Baldwin Creek apts. Upon arrival the first crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor and extending to the second floor. A second alarm was called for immediately to get extra rigs to the scene. The fire spread thru the attic of the structure and took over an hour and a half to get under control.
All residents self-evacuated prior to the fire depts arrival, the exact number of residents is unknown at the time of this report, approx. 20-40 residents.
At the time of this report the cause is under investigation.
There were no injuries reported.
FWPD, TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO, NCE were on the scene to assist.
