ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Coroner’s Office says the victim in a Friday shooting was 77-year-old Sandra Chelf. Her death is classified as a homicide, and police arrested her husband, 79-year-old James Chelf. She was shot and killed just after 10 p.m. in a home in Woodlake Mobile Home Park near the Fort Wayne International Airport. Chelf’s death was the 13th homicide this year in Allen County.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On Friday, May 22, 2026, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a shooting, in the 100 block of Woodlake Run, in Yoder, Indiana. The decedent was found unresponsive on the bedroom floor. Southwest Allen County EMS arrived and pronounced death.
The individual has been identified as Sandra Sue Chelf, female, White, 77 years of age. The autopsy has been completed and the next of kin has been notified.
Sandra Sue Chelf s Cause of Death is Multiple Gunshot Wounds, and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Sandra Sue Chelf is the 13th Homicide for Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana in 2026.
This incident remains under investigation by the Allen County Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
