FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – City Utilities says that Fort Wayne’s drinking water is backed by some of the top water quality professionals in the country — and now they have another national championship to prove it.
A team of City Utilities chemists from the Three Rivers Filtration Plant won the national Top Ops Championship at the American Water Works Association’s ACE26 Conference in Washington, D.C. The victory marks the second year in a row, and the third in four years, that the team has won the national title. The win also earns the team a paid trip to defend its national title next year at the AWWA conference in San Diego, California.
City Utilities released the following:
The Fort Wayne team from the Three Rivers Filtration Plant includes captain Sarah Block, Brandy Lampkins and Joe Stout. Internally, the team competes under the name the Turbidity Chasers — a nod to one of the key measurements used in drinking water treatment and water quality.
Top Ops is a fast-paced water knowledge competition that challenges teams from across the country on drinking water treatment, operations, chemistry, math, regulations and water quality. The competition highlights the technical expertise required to deliver safe, reliable drinking water every day.
“This national championship reflects the talent and commitment of the employees behind Fort Wayne’s water system,” said Kumar Menon, Director of City Utilities. “Our customers benefit every day from a team that takes great pride in protecting water quality, supporting public health and delivering safe, great-tasting water to our community.”
The honor continues a strong run of recognition for the people behind Fort Wayne’s drinking water. At the Three Rivers Filtration Plant, Sarah, Brandy and Joe are part of the team honored last year with the 25-Year Directors Award from the Partnership for Safe Water. Fort Wayne also received the Gold Medal for Best Tasting Municipal Water at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition.
