FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) says two pets, a dog and a cat, perished in a fire Sunday afternoon.
Crews were called to Springwood Drive around 1:45 p.m. on the city’s northeast side after a passerby called in the fire.
Firefighters were able to get control of the flames, but the official cause is under investigation.
The FWFD released the following:
Fort Wayne Fire Department was alerted by a passerby that called 911 seeing smoke from a neighbor’s roof. On Engine 4s arrival of a 2 story split level home smoke was seen from the ridge vents of the roof. Engine 4 entered through the front door to find a fire in the kitchen area and proceeded to extinguish. Several other crews went into the structure to search for occupants. No occupants were found but unfortunately 1 dog and 1 cat perished from smoke and heat. Several crews remained on scene to overhaul and make sure there was no further fire damage. Fire is under investigation. FWFD was assisted by Animal control, AEP, NIPSCO, TRAA and PD.
