DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police (ISP) are reminding motorists that being high is a form of intoxication and never to drive while high.
It comes after a Texas man operating a semi on I-69 in Auburn was arrested for both transporting and using pot while driving.
He is now facing several charges.
ISP released the following:
On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, just after 9:30pm an Indiana State Police Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 69 in DeKalb County, south of Auburn. The Trooper observed a semi‑tractor trailer speeding and making unsafe lane movements. The vehicle drifted into the other lane and changed lanes without signaling, creating a hazard for other drivers.
During the traffic stop, the Trooper’s interaction with the driver, identified as Brendan Lewis (26) of Houston TX, and subsequent investigation provided evidence to arrest the driver for operating while intoxicated. A lawful search of the truck revealed suspected burnt marijuana and a large quantity of packaged marijuana inside the cab.
Mr. Lewis was arrested on the following charges:
Operating While Intoxicated – Endangerment: Class A Misdemeanor
Possession of Controlled Substance: Class B Misdemeanor
Operating While Intoxicated: Class C Misdemeanor
Operating with Controlled Substance in Body: Class C Misdemeanor
The Indiana State Police emphasize that no matter how minor individuals may believe marijuana possession or use to be, it is always illegal to drive while intoxicated. This incident is especially alarming considering the driver was operating a semi tractor‑trailer — a vehicle capable of causing catastrophic damage in the event of a crash.
The Indiana State Police remain committed to patrolling with purpose and arresting drivers who make unsafe decisions, including driving under the influence of marijuana or any intoxicating substance.
All evidence collected during the investigation was transported to the Indiana State Police Regional Laboratory for testing and secure storage. The semi‑tractor trailer combination vehicle was impounded as part of the ongoing case.
*The arrest is based upon probable cause of a crime, all crimes mentioned are alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
