FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – One was critically injured in a crash just south of downtown Fort Wayne on Thursday.
The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) said it happened around 7 p.m. on Creighton Avenue close to Broadway.
Police think a pickup truck turned onto Creighton and struck a parked tow truck. A passenger in the truck was initially pinned inside but freed by first responders and taken to the hospital.
According to FWPD, they are in ‘life-threatening condition’. The driver of the pickup truck was reported to be okay.
The FWPD released the following:
On August 27, 2026, shortly before 7:00 p.m., Fort Wayne Police Department officers were dispatched to a
crash involving a pickup truck that had struck the rear of a parked flatbed tow truck in the 900 block of West
Creighton Ave. Upon arrival, officers began providing aid to the male passenger of the pickup truck, who was
pinned inside the vehicle. The Fort Wayne Fire Department assisted with extricating the passenger. He was
transported to a local trauma center in serious condition, which was later downgraded to life-threatening. The
male driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and is cooperating with investigators.
The Fatal Accident Crash Team and Air Support Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Preliminary
findings indicate the pickup truck was traveling west on Creighton Ave when it left its lane and collided with
the back of the tow truck. Investigators are working to determine whether speed and/or environmental
conditions contributed to the crash. At this time, alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
The investigation remains ongoing. Creighton Ave between Miner St and Broadway should be open to traffic
no later than 11:00 p.m.
