FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – You will see some Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) officers wearing pink badges instead of their normal badges in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Our badge is a big part of our uniform, and for us to change it to the color pink is a big deal,” said Capt. Sherronda Blocher.
The following was released:
To get a new pink badge, officers must donate $20 or donate $10 to wear a pink badge from years past. This money goes to Francine’s Friends, which provides women with mammogram opportunities and resources as they fight breast cancer.
The department has been running the pink badge campaign since at least 2016. The hope is to raise awareness about this deadly disease and support those fighting it.
“When you see us wearing this pink badge, we want you to know that we’re right here beside you as you fight,” Blocher said.
You may also see cars with pink badge window clings, which anyone can buy for $5, with all proceeds going to Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography. To purchase yours, come to the Rousseau Center front desk during business hours.
