FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says a pedestrian has died after they were hit by a motorcycle downtown Sunday night just before 8 p.m.
The motorcycle fled the scene, and police are searching for it and the two people who were on the bike. The crash happened at the intersection of East Wayne Street and Lafayette Street, and the man died after being taken to a hospital.
The FWPD released the following:
Fort Wayne Police officers responded at approximately 7:50 p.m. to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Lafayette Street near Wayne Street.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Officers immediately began providing emergency medical care, including CPR, until medics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) was requested to respond to the scene. Air Support also responded to assist investigators with documenting and mapping the crash scene.
Preliminary information from witnesses indicates that a motorcycle was traveling northbound on Lafayette Street when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing Lafayette Street. Investigators are continuing to work to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators are reviewing available business surveillance camera footage and examining vehicle parts and other evidence located at the scene.
The investigation remains active, and no further information regarding the identity of the deceased or potential charges is available at this time.
