ANGOLA, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police in Steuben County say an Angola man is facing charges following a chase. Officers were called on a report that he was violating his parole on Monday. According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, when they arrived he took off and ultimately crashed the Charger he was driving and then fled on foot.
The Sheriff’s Office says it all started around 9 p.m. Monday night. That is when Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 3000 block of West Maumee St on Angola’s west side on a report of a person with an active arrest warrant for violating parole in that area.
Upon arrival, the wanted subject who had been identified as 39-year-old Robert Joseph Bonham of Angola, IN was located inside a black 2010 Dodge Charger. When deputies attempted to apprehend Bonham, he allegedly fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed from a parking lot onto Maumee St colliding with another vehicle.
Bonham then fled the accident scene on foot, but was located and apprehended a short time later.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Steuben County Jail on one count of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle a level 6 felony, one count of resisting law enforcement a class A misdemeanor, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident a class A misdemeanor.
Bonham remains held in lieu of an $8,000.00 bond and is also facing the alleged violation of parole. The vehicle crash was investigated by the Indiana State Police. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Angola Police and the Indiana State Police.
