FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire officials say that a vacant home in West Central was badly damaged in an early morning fire on Tuesday.
Crews were called to the 900 block of Garden Street just after 4:15 a.m. to a duplex. Crews could see flames shooting from the structure when they arrived.
By that point, the blaze had spread throughout both floors and into the attic. They were able to gain control of the fire in about 20 minutes but remained on the scene for hours after for overhaul work and the investigation portion.
The FWFD said no one was hurt. The structure suffered heavy smoke, water, and fire damage.
The cause of the fire is still yet to be determined.
FWFD officials released the following:
Fort Wayne Communications received a 911 call reporting a house on fire. FWFD was dispatched and the first arriving Fire Engine reported flames coming from windows on the address side of a two-story duplex. It was quickly determined the building was not occupied by search and fire attack crews. The fire had spread through both floors and into the attic of half of the duplex. The fire was brought under control in just over 20 minutes with no civilian or FWFD injuries. Extensive overhaul operations in conjunction with fire investigations will be ongoing this morning.
FWFD was assisted by several public and private agencies to manage this incident. Fort Wayne Communications, Fort Wayne Police, Three Rivers Ambulance, Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code, Nipsco and AEP provided their services to stabilize this emergency.
