
Mark Linsday Handshoe
STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – According to Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, an “ongoing neighborhood dispute” was behind an incident Saturday night that landed one man in jail.
Officials said that shots were fired on the 6900 block of West CR 490 N in Millgrove Township during what is described as an altercation.
When officers arrived, they say they learned that Mark Linsday Handshoe, 53, was involved in the fight and was armed. Police say he was disarmed and detained.
Detectives conducted interviews and determined that the fight was part of an ongoing dispute. Witnesses said the Handshoe had gotten the gun after some kind of fight Saturday night and that he fired on several people.
Police say that no one was struck by the bullets but that minor injuries were reported in the altercation. Those who were injured at the scene refused medical attention.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
On April 8th, 2023 just after 7:00 P.M. Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 6900 block of West CR 490 N in Steuben County’s rural Millgrove Township on a reported physical altercation involving shots fired. Initial arriving deputies were directed to one male, whom was still on scene, by witnesses that indicated the male subject was involved in the altercation and was armed with a firearm. Deputies immediately detained and disarmed that male suspect and identified him as 53 year old Mark Linsday Handshoe of rural Orland, Indiana.
Sheriff’s detectives were called into to assist with the investigation and conducted multiple interviews. Detectives found that an ongoing neighborhood dispute led to threats of physical harm being made, at which time Handshoe allegedly obtained a firearm and discharged the firearm multiple times in the direction of other individuals involved. A firearm allegedly used in the altercation was recovered from the scene.
Throughout the course of investigation, Detectives developed probable cause to arrest Handshoe for two counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon a level 6 felony, two counts of pointing a loaded firearm a level 6 felony, and two counts of intimidation while armed with a deadly weapon a level 5 felony. Handshoe was booked into the Steuben County Jail and remains held without bond pending an initial court appearance.
During the incident, minor injuries were reported as a result of a physical altercation however no injuries were sustained due to the firearm being discharged. Individuals involved that complained of injuries refused medical attention.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Clear Lake Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
