FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – On Monday, Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker announced that she has joined “America the Entrepreneurial” as a Founding Mayor.
“America the Entrepreneurial” is a national campaign to renew America’s entrepreneurial promise in the 250th anniversary year of the United States.
The City released the following:
“America the Entrepreneurial” calls for a revival of the spirit that built our nation – a promise that anyone should be able to shape a better future.
Esli and Johnny Perez are an example of an entrepreneurial success story in Fort Wayne. Today, Mayor Tucker highlighted one of their businesses, The Compound, home to Papi’s Pizza and Brixton Barbecue, located at 224 E. Wallace St.
“America the Entrepreneurial” is conceived and orchestrated by Right to Start, a national nonprofit organization advancing entrepreneurship as a civic priority. It has already attracted a National Advisory Council of leaders of entrepreneurship, a list of whom is available at www.americatheentrepreneurial.org/team. The campaign will expand to engage individuals, organizations, and government leaders and their jurisdictions nationwide in the months ahead.
The campaign recently released three playbooks that are designed to engage and activate those three separate audiences – individuals, organizations (“partners”), and government leaders and their jurisdictions – in support of entrepreneurship. Each playbook contains a list of possible actions – ranging from easy to more involved – as well as explanatory information.
Fort Wayne is a recognized leader in entrepreneurship achievements. For example, the Summit City Entrepreneur and Enterprise District (SEED) is a quasi-governmental entity, in partnership with the City of Fort Wayne, that promotes entrepreneurial initiatives focusing on community, economic, and neighborhood development, with a focal point on the district’s approximately seven square miles.
SEED boundaries include the major commercial corridors within Fort Wayne and are represented in all four quadrants; however, the district is primarily in the southeast quadrant of Fort Wayne. SEED is dedicated to economic prosperity through equitable business growth and stable jobs for our community. To date, more than 60 small businesses have benefitted from SEED.

Fort Wayne’s future is bright and I’m excited to be part of a national effort that’s designed to make a lasting impact right here in our great city.”
Mayor Tucker today also issued a proclamation highlighting this new effort by proclaiming August 3, 2026, as America the Entrepreneurial Day in Fort Wayne.
